Jodi

Jodi is a Physical Therapist and one half of the STRIDE partnership. Don’t be fooled by her size – she may be short, but she’s mighty…

Jodi grew up in Yorkton and fancies herself a (small) city slicker. She convocated from the University of Saskatchewan with a BSc in Physiology in 2001. She then went on to work and travel until she returned to university and convocated with her BSc in Physical Therapy with Distinction in 2006. She was the recipient of various awards and scholarships during her university career, but is most proud of the time she served on the Steering Committee for SWITCH (the student wellness initiative toward community health) which founded the multidisciplinary student-run health clinic in Saskatoon still going strong today.

Since convocation, Jodi has worked in private practice orthopaedics and has gone on to complete extensive post-graduate work in her field. She is a certified acupuncture provider through Acupuncture Canada, has received her Intermediate Certificate in Manual and Manipulative Therapy through the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, has become a Matheson trained ergonomic consultant, as well as a certified concussion management provider with Complete Concussion Management Inc., the largest, most specialized concussion network in North America.

Jodi founded STRIDE with Laurel in 2015.

Her life away from physical therapy has included sports such as volleyball, competitive swimming, water polo, ballet and curling. Jodi is also an avid supporter of the arts and has served as a board member for the historic Lyric Theatre and is a regular volunteer with the SC Little Theatre. Jodi also has a love for travel and reckons there’s not enough time or money to see all the destinations on her hit list. Her travels so far have taken her through Western Europe, Indonesia, Japan, Northern Canada, Mexico, the United States, and beyond.

Jodi and her husband have two young boys who bring complete joy and utter chaos to their lives. She plays the piano, a little guitar (very poorly), loves books, good food, and is a closet writer with a collection of stories that will likely never see the light of day.

When we managed to sit Jodi down long enough to participate in her “STRIDE Interview,” this is what she had to say…

Q. If you could invite 3 people to a dinner party, living or dead, who would they be?

A. Joan Jett, Gloria Steinem, Tina Fey

Q. What is your most bizarre talent?

A. I can do a pretty mean Elvis lip snarl (but only on my left side!)

Q. Name 3 albums or books that really resonate with you?

A. “A Healthy Society” – Ryan Meili; “Yes Please” – Amy Poehler; “Ariel” – Sylvia Plath

Q. Everyone has a guilty pleasure. What’s yours?

A. Deep fried stuff with cheese, baby!

Q. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

A. Too many to choose from, but Portugal is definitely on my list.

Q. Tell us one thing that very few people know about you.

A. A few friends and I were in a band a couple years back; I played the keyboards…badly. We were wildly unpopular!

Q. What inspires you?

A. People who follow their passion and find a way to carve out time and do what they love no matter the circumstance. Whether it be an athlete perfecting their sport or a creative working on their art – it’s the aggressive and dedicated pursuit, the “making of it happen” that impresses and inspires me.

Q. If you could choose one superpower, what would it be.

A. Telepathy…à la Professor Xavier. That guy seems to know what he’s doing.

Q. Describe yourself in 3 words.

A. Since “cheese obsessed” isn’t really a thing, I’d have to say…analytical, sensitive, awkward

And finally, a This or That Lightning Round…

  • sky dive or bungee jump – sky dive
  • chocolate or vanilla – vanilla
  • cats or dogs – cats
  • summer or winter – summer
  • rain or snow – rain
  • tea or coffee – coffee (the stronger, the better)
  • Batman or Superman – Superman
  • TV or movies – movies
  • mullet or mutton chops – mutton chops
  • sweet or sour – sour
  • early bird or night owl – night owl
  • cake or pie – is cheese an option?
  • silver or gold – silver
  • comedy or horror – comedy

Jodi is excited to see her clients (both previous and new) in October. Call, email, or use our online scheduler starting mid September to get booking your appointments! And although there’s the old saying that “cash is king”, Jodi would probably consider payments made in cheese if necessary 😉
