Video Appointment Protocols

Why Telehealth? Video appointments aren’t the traditional way of doing healthcare consultations. However because we gain the majority of information needed to make a diagnosis through the story you share with us, and the most important intervention we provide is advice and education.

There is now a lot of research comparing Physical Therapy delivered via a virtual platform and in person sessions. There are studies that have found moderate to high reliability comparing therapist diagnoses across platforms, and other studies have showed similar client outcomes from interventions delivered virtually. It can also reduce costs and increase accessibility for clients living in rural areas.

IN ADVANCE of your first session:

Web Browser: We recommend your internet browser is either Firefox or Chrome.

Log in to your Jane Account: Access login page here. DO NOT start a new profile/account – if you have an appointment, this means you have an account. You may not have set up a username yet; this can be done through your welcome email. If you have trouble remembering either username or password or finding your welcome email, please email info@hityourstride.ca.

Find the Upcoming Appointments Section: This is where you will access your video appointment at your scheduled time (the Begin button will not appear until an hour prior to your appointment time).

Credit Card Information: For all private paying clients (ie. everyone except WCB or SGI clients), click the Credit Cards on File tab on the left side of your screen and ensure your credit card information is accurate and up to date. We will automatically process your insurance claim if you have completed an accurate Extended Health Benefits form and have an eligible insurer. Any amount that is not covered by insurance or that we are unable to submit, will then be processed to your credit card. You will be issued a receipt via email and you can follow up with your insurance company if needed.

Type of Device: Any type of device should work (ie. computer, laptop, iPad, smart phone). If you are using an iOS device (iPhone or iPad), you will need to download the Jane app prior to your appointment.

Internet Connection: Check your internet speed. You will need a result of 15Mbps or higher. If you’re seeing a number measured in Kbps, that’s not good news. If your internet connection isn’t great, email info@hityourstride.ca for our alternate video method which will work better with a lower connection speed.

Check Camera & Microphone: You will also have to click “enable” if a pop up window prompts you to activate them when starting your first video call with us.

DAY OF your session:

Clothing: Please wear appropriate clothing for your session. If it’s for a lower body issue, consider wearing shorts. If it’s an upper body issue, consider wearing a tank top (women) or we may ask you to remove your shirt (men).

Space: Try to find a space in your home where you can move around a bit if needed while still staying in view of your computer’s camera. We may ask you to do a few activities (bend, squat, twist, walk, reach, etc) in order to assess your movement. Also, make sure that you are somewhere private and that nobody behind you will be surprised by being on screen.

Battery: Check your battery! Might be best to be plugged in.

10-15 min before your session: 1. Log into your Jane account here. 2. Under Upcoming Appointments, you should see the time/date of your session. Click the Begin button. 3. Complete consent by clicking “I Consent, Begin Online Appointment”. 4. Wait patiently and your therapist will be with you shortly.

Technical Issues: Please email info@hityourstride.ca to notify our admin/your therapist and they will troubleshoot with you or simply send you a link to access our back up platform. Be patient; we’ll figure out a solution together! If you happen to get disconnected during your session, your therapist will email you instructions on what to do next, so have your inbox handy. Alternatively, they will call you on the phone to discuss the next steps.

With your online account, you will be able to schedule appointments, cancel upcoming appointments, and view your appointment history.

We’ve been doing these sessions for awhile now, and truly, it’s going very well!
