Healthy Gardening Tips

Gardening season is here and we couldn’t be happier about it. Consider these friendly reminders on how to stay safe while digging in the dirt:

Warm up/cool down:

Walk a bit and stretch your arms, legs, and neck to limber up before and after you get working 

Mix up your movements:

Digging, raking, pruning are all very repetitive, so change tasks often and take breaks regularly

Consider your position:

Kneel, sit or squat to protect your back

Use supports:

Raised beds, knee pads, sitting stools, gloves, ergonomic tools are all good options 

Lift smart:

Use your legs and engage your core when lifting/carrying and keep objects close to you 

Stay sun safe:

Wear a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen

Be aware of pests:

Consider repellent and check for ticks

Stay hydrated:

Have water handy and sip as you need it

Pace yourself and have fun!
