Jodi: National Physio Month

May is National Physiotherapy Month! In honour of it being 2018, we’ve asked each of our STRIDE physiotherapists to share with us “18 Things You May Not Know About Me” as a way of getting to know them a little better.

Jodi

1. I play a few musical instruments (piano, organ, guitar, ukulele…even a little harmonica) with skill level ranging from wildly poor to moderately acceptable. My kids are the best audience though and think I’m a total rock star.

2. I LOVE cheese. To the extent that it’s likely considered problematic by some definitions. Let’s put it this way, if I could make a sweater out of it and wear it, I probably would.

3. I own an obscene number of Chuck Taylor Converse sneakers. I won’t even admit to how many. Maybe it’s my way of clinging to the good old days of 1996. Anyway, my purple velvet ones and the pair I designed myself are among my favourites. Incidentally, I’ve never worn either of these to the clinic for some reason.

4. My personal style is very eclectic. Anyone that has been to my house can see this very clearly. I’m not a fan of things (again, in my personal life) being very “match-y match-y.” And while my house may seem odd to some, each element in it probably has some reason or story behind it being there.

5. I fully realize I wear black ALL THE TIME. I try when shopping to buy items that aren’t black…but I usually come home with black anyway. Also, I hate shopping.

6. I have two tattoos and I’m currently designing my third.

7. My tongue was pierced all through university. My Dad hated it. One day, it randomly fell out and I just didn’t bother replacing it.

8. I once sat beside Keanu Reeves on the subway in New York. I once had a conversation with David Suzuki on a beach along the Indian Ocean while traveling Indonesia. I once had Steven Tyler buy me a hot dog from the red bus in downtown Saskatoon. Also, only TWO of these statements are actually true.

9. I have an irrational fear of sharks. I say irrational because even when I’m lane swimming in an indoor pool, I occasionally look past my feet for any indication a shark is about to eat me alive.

10. I have a major thing for Kevin Bacon. I’m actually headed to Los Angelas in a few weeks and his is the only star on the Walk of Fame that I’ll probably drag my friend to check out.

11. I have been friends with my husband since we were in Grade 7. He asked me out in Grade 10 and I said no (can you say awkward?!) But, we remained good friends over the years and eventually started dating.

12. I’m actually an introvert and really appreciate the (albeit, very little) alone time I can manage to carve out for myself.

13. I have a very large sense personal space…which is odd for a physical therapist, since while working, there is literally no such thing as having personal space.

14. I throw the raddest after-bath-before-bed-pajama dance parties, complete with a glow turtle light show. The guest list is always very exclusive. “Happy” by Pharrell, without a doubt, gets played…repeatedly. I’m not tired of that song at all.

15. The sounds people make while eating are irritating to me…but not all people…and not all the time…and mostly just one person at work has this effect on me – they know who they are! haha

16. I chew gum constantly. It started in university. I felt like it somehow helped my concentration and I’ve just never stopped.

17. I don’t like surprises and like chocolate even less.

18. I was almost named Tammy.
