Laurel: National Physio Month

May is National Physiotherapy Month! In honour of it being 2018, we’ve asked each of our STRIDE physiotherapists to share with us “18 Things You May Not Know About Me” as a way of getting to know them a little better.

Laurel

  1. I really love greenhouse shopping. Flowers in the spring are definitely my guilty pleasure.

  2. I grew up on a pig farm and love eating all things pork – except bacon. I would be totally fine with no bacon ever again.

  3. The beach is my happy place.

  4. I am an anti-pack rat. I purge A LOT (sorry Grandma!)

  5. I find myself singing whenever I’m alone. And yes, I can belt out pretty much anything Destiny’s Child (although I’ve recently been told I shouldn’t admit this.)

  6. Mice scare the heck out of me. I know they are small. I know they are “more scared of me, than I am of them.” It just doesn’t matter; they are gross, terrifying little creatures.

  7. My kids are great for the self-esteem. They dole out compliments and I savor each one.

  8. I used to play the trombone, now the only thing I can play is a half-assed guitar.

  9. I’m not one for a bunch of acquaintances. I have a few very close friends to whom I’m fiercely loyal.

  10. I grew up with the ugliest (according to my husband) and sweetest (according to me) cat ever. He had a bulging, weepy eye, and no ears and he came running whenever I called. His name, Ferd, was as original as he was.

  11. I worked for three years in a museum and was once given a hot air balloon ride as a tip (I know this sounds totally bizarre…ask me about it.)

  12. I grew up playing a variety of sports and continue to believe in mixing it up rather than early sport specific specialization.

  13. The grain truck had to have a long visit with the mechanic after my first attempt at driving a standard…oops.

  14. I prefer to shoot straight and like when others do the same. I hate guessing what someone else is thinking – probably because I’m not very good at it 😉

  15. My desk drawer is basically an independent shopping centre. You never know what you might find.

  16. I’ve always preferred to study in a comfy chair. And by study, I mean nap. I still hold strong that sleep compounds all the knowledge 😉

  17. Once upon a time, I had some spare time and co-authored a systematic review. It will likely never happen again, so please enjoy! http://www.cochrane.org/CD010884/MUSKEL_resistance-training-such-as-weight-lifting-for-fibromyalgia

  18. I have been pooped on by a bird so many times. Apparently, it’s supposed to be lucky. Let’s go with that.
