Custom Bracing
Osskin custom bracing uses in-clinic digital scanning and 3D printing to create braces tailored to your anatomy, commonly used for knee osteoarthritis, meniscal injuries, and ligament sprains alongside physiotherapy. Each brace costs approximately $2,200, and some extended health insurance plans may provide partial or full coverage depending on your policy.
Osskin Custom Bracing
Osskin custom bracing uses advanced scanning and 3D printing technology to create braces that are tailored to your exact anatomy. At Stride Physio & Performance, we use a digital limb scan to capture precise measurements, which are then used to 3D print a custom brace designed specifically for your body, movement needs, and activity goals.
This process allows for a high level of accuracy, comfort, and fit compared to off-the-shelf bracing options, while reducing pressure points and bulk.
How the Scanning & 3D Printing Process Works
The custom bracing process begins with a non-invasive digital scan of the involved limb, completed in-clinic. This scan captures detailed anatomical information without the need for casting or moulding.
The scan data is then used to design and 3D print a custom brace using durable, lightweight materials. Once fabricated, the brace is fitted and adjusted as needed to ensure comfort, proper support, and ease of use.
Clinical Uses for Osskin Custom Bracing
Custom bracing may be recommended as part of a broader management plan for certain conditions, including:
-
Knee osteoarthritis, where unloading braces may help reduce joint stress and improve comfort during walking and activity
-
Meniscal injuries, particularly when additional support or symptom control is needed during daily or sporting activities
-
Ligament sprains or instability, such as ACL, MCL, or other knee ligament injuries, where bracing may support confidence and movement during rehabilitation
Bracing is typically used alongside physiotherapy, exercise, activity modification, and other self-management strategies rather than as a stand-alone solution.
Cost & Insurance Coverage
The cost of an Osskin custom brace is approximately $2,200 CAD per brace.
Some extended health insurance plans may provide partial or full coverage for custom bracing, depending on your policy and medical necessity. Coverage varies between insurers, and pre-approval or a prescription may be required. Our team can help provide documentation to support insurance submissions, but we recommend confirming coverage directly with your provider.
Is Custom Bracing Right for You?
Custom bracing is not necessary for everyone. It may be considered when symptoms, activity demands, or joint instability cannot be adequately managed with exercise, education, and other conservative strategies alone.
If appropriate, your physiotherapist will discuss the potential benefits, limitations, and costs so you can make an informed decision that aligns with your goals.
